Like many little girls, I grew up wondering what it would be like to sing and dance. While I did manage to learn dance, I never got involved with singing. I enjoyed singing in school and church but did not bother to learn anything that would improve my voice.
For about six months now, I’ve been practicing a few vocal and elocution exercises. However, I’m not only improving my clarity. I’m also putting more thought and empathy into my communication. We waste so much time and energy waiting for other people to understand us that we often don’t take stock of how we might be contributing to the problem. Now I’m working on speech in a new way, incorporating things I’ve learned from Alura to improve my daily conversation, self-expression, and connection to others.
Another benefit of the vocal practice is that I can more easily to my daily chakra chants (not the ones you find on youtube – they don’t work). I try to do the warm-up before I start them, and when I do, I don’t have to strain to hit certain notes. That makes me very happy!
Previously, I touched on some shadow work I’ve been doing. Without going into that too deeply, I will say some of it feeds into this, as well. Everything is connected in multiple ways, and it can be overwhelming once you truly understand that – but it can also be a lot of fun.
I’m so glad I found a spiritual mentor who really works for me and listens to me instead of someone who claims you can do everything on your own. Just buy a bunch of books and crystals, and you will have all the answers to life’s problems. I made the mistake of listening to someone like that before and ended up on a dead-end road. Still, I learned a great deal from the experience and do my best to continue applying it. There are always positives in the negatives if you know where to look.
